How to use FTP to send messages

Suppose you have custom made software that outputs an excel file and you want to use that file to send your messages. Everything has been automated, from collecting the numbers, to determining the messages, to outputting the Excel file … but you still need to manually upload the file to our SMS mailer.

That’s where FTP comes in. It is the last step in fully automating your workflow.  You can automatically let your software upload a (correctly formatted) excel- or CSV-file and we’ll do the rest.

So how do you do this?

  1. If you don’t have an FTP account with us already, contact support@ringring.be They will create an account for you
  2. Open the SMS Mailer
  3. Go to Settings
  4. Go to FTP Configuration

Here you will find all the data (login, password) needed to upload your files to our FTP. We check for new files on the FTP-server every 1-5 minutes, so once you put a file on there, it will be processed quickly.

You still need a well formatted template.  We support XSLX files and it needs to have three specific columns (the first values in row 1 need to be exact):

A1: "PhoneNumber"

B1: "Datetime"

C1: "Message"

If you are still unsure, we have a predefined template for you:

  1. On the portal homepage, click "Send SMS"
  2. Click the button "Use File"
  3. On the richt, click "Get template"

All three column headers need to be present, but only PhoneNumber is mandatory to fill in.  DateTime and Message are optional.
